The G5A Foundation for Contemporary Culture was envisioned and founded by Anuradha Parikh, an architect and filmmaker based in Mumbai.
Her wide-ranging independent and collaborative projects and her commitment towards creating deeper socio-cultural dialogues, have organically led to the formation of G5A, a multi-functional community space and cultural center in Central Mumbai.
The space, which we refer to as a Warehouse, has a black box- a multi purpose hall that can house 120 to 150 people depending on the lay out. It also has a study- a small hall that can accommodate 30 people, a 2000 sqft terrace and a café.
The Centre will have performances of all form or arts, conferences, workshops, courses and discussions. In addition, there will be Community based programs with the focus on Women, and Youth with the view to bring around awareness, train them with livelihood model training and so on. It is estimated that there will be close to 500 event/ programs in the centre every year.
Besides the center, the Foundation will be the incubators for several projects in the Community. To start with, Zero Waste Neighborhood project is the first one that is undertaken in Ward no. 194 in G S. There will be more projects that would be incubated. The final mission is to make Mumbai a Creative and a livable space with dignity for all.
The Urban planner will be the senior most position for the Community related work He/ she will be required to liaise with the Government, BMC and other local authorities, NGOs etc.
Responsibilities of the Urban Planner
• Conceive projects that would assist in making Mumbai a livable space
• Define the project so s to achieve the shift in culture of the Community
• Develop Strategy for implementation of projects. Initially for Zero Waste Neighbourhood
• Conduct survey to assess current situation Vis A Vis the project
• Train people for the survey and evolve meaningful Questionnaire
• Liaison with the authorities like BMC etc. and NGOs
